ABOUT US —
Our story and philosophy
“I didn’t want the expert to tell them what to do. I wanted the expert to give them the facts and let them decide what to do. There’s a big difference in giving information and telling people how to use it.” (Myles Hortonand Paulo Freire 1991, p. 129 in Newton, 2014.)
Ama Dablam Institute for relational psychotherapy and education (ADI) is a professional educational organization that designs and provides the highest-level trainings and services to serve a global network of mental health practitioners*, particularly for psychotherapists and counsellors (both in training and certified).
Freedom —
In our approach to education and supervision, we want to offer the freedom to learn. For us, this means being there for the student and/or supervisee, offering our knowledge and skills as well as our emotionality and vulnerability, offer who we are as a whole person at the time. And in that space and time, being the motivator and challenger for the student to use their own unique knowledge, skills and experience to become or to enhance their competencies as a child/adolescent/adult psychotherapist. In this sense, freedom is very important to us.
Freedom to choose, within the theoretical and professional frame of reference, their own rhythm and course of development.
Responsibility —
Along with freedom, we see responsibility as “hand in hand” with it – responsibility to oneself, the other members of the group (including the facilitator), the (future) clients, their family and friends. We recognise and make important all aspects and roles in the lives of students/supervisees because we believe that the integration of knowledge and skills in all roles is important for professional development.
Our approach includes:
Relational, co-creative partnerships
Utilization of creative, expressive techniques and methodologies
International and intercultural collaboration
Integration of diverse psychotherapy approaches, particularly transactional analysis and play therapy
Presentation of modern psychological and psychotherapeutic theories and practices
Up-to-date training and supervision modalities, both online and Face-to-Face
Explorations that connect with nature and our spiritual roots through existential themes
Why the name Ama Dablam?
Why the slogan “the place where authenticity, congruence and learning meet”?
We embrace challenges, offering them through various means, such as:
Integration of diverse teaching styles—liberal, humanistic, progressive, and radical
A blend of play therapy and transactional analysis, enriched with insights from psychology and other therapeutic approaches
The combination and integration of different methods, especially child-centered play therapy, which differs from the verbal and directive nature of transactional analysis
By working with children and adults, we provide continuous learning from varied experiences, understanding that awareness of developmental stages is critical when working with any age group.
Recognizing the intersection and integration of our various social roles, we extend this challenge to our students and supervisees through our interactions and direct feedback. We offer a collaborative learning environment, fostering relational psychotherapy through individual and group experiences.
Finally, we value cultural diversity, so our Institute features internationally recognized educators and supervisors. We believe in rich learning from openness to different ways of life, an increasingly vital skill in our globalized world.
We offer several programs at our Institute:
