TA 101: Introduction to Transactional Analysis
Introduction
TA 101: Introduction to Transactional Analysis (TA) is a course designed for enthusiasts of psychology and human functioning, as well as for those looking to take their first step into the world of psychotherapy. This introductory course, spanning 16 academic hours, offers participants the opportunity to better understand themselves, others, and the dynamics of group behavior through fundamental TA concepts. It also guides individuals on how they can personally enhance communication and steer interactions in a desired direction.
The curriculum is a blend of theoretical lectures, experiential exercises, and discussions in both small and larger group settings. It emphasizes the core philosophical tenets of transactional analysis: mutual respect from an ‘I’m okay – You’re okay’ stance; the belief in our capacity to think, which supports the encouragement of reflective thought; and our ability to enact changes in our lives.
Upon completion, participants receive a certificate approved by both the European Association for Transactional Analysis (EATA) and the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA), allowing them to enroll in the advanced TA 202 course.
What does the course cover?
Designed in line with the guidelines of the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA), topics explored include:
- What is Transactional Analysis (TA)?
- What do I mean when I say…? And what do I feel? – How TA explains our patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior (ego-state model)?
- Why do we feel the need to communicate (stroke analysis) and why do we communicate the way we do (transaction analysis)?
- What exactly do we do in conflict situations and what roles do we assume (psychological games analysis)?
- Why do similar events, often unsatisfactory, recur in our lives?
- What drives us to repeat certain mistakes (script or life scenario analysis)?
Or are you considering becoming a psychotherapist in the TA practice area and want to know more?
