During this three-day gathering, held in the darkest part of the year, we aim to create space for you to encounter both familiar and unfamiliar aspects of your personal, ancestral and collective history—and to explore how we might create new meaning from them together.
In ancient cultures, whose echoes we can still hear today, this was a time for remembering our ancestors, visiting the dead, and honouring supernatural beings, knowledge and practices. It was believed to be a time when the veils between worlds grew thin, when we were at our most vulnerable in the natural world—and therefore a time for ritual, connection and protection.
The world as it is organised today leaves little room for sitting in darkness, pausing before growth, or honouring everything that came before us. There is no time for rituals that bring light into the darkness while we wait for the days to grow longer.
For us as human beings—and particularly for those of us who are therapists—it is essential to develop the capacity to embrace the complexity and interconnectedness of darkness and light in the world, in others and within ourselves. We need to be able to resist the pressure to escape into superficial positivity and constant action.
We invite you to challenge this demand and join us in turning towards the darkness, the cyclical rhythms and interconnectedness of nature, and the magic of this time of year—a magic far deeper and older than the neoliberal magic of festive lights and shopping.
We will explore the archetype of the female healer and its history in this region; the magic of words spoken with intention; curses and blessings, and the place they hold within us, our relationships and transactional analysis. We will engage with intuition and explore the deep, universal knowledge that lives within us. We will also reflect on communities and the creation of communities that can hold and support all these processes.
We will work with space, plants and history through storytelling, searching for answers, rituals, expression and creativity.
I look forward to meeting you in Zagreb.
